THE DIGITAL

“You might not think that programmers are artists, but programming is an extremely creative profession. It's logic-based creativity.”

- John Romero

BLACK BOX

Metal and screensprint on fabric

This piece explores the black box of machine learning.  The pink organic objects mimic Santiago Ramon y Cajal's early drawings of human neurons while the overlapping white geometric forms represent a technological equivalent of perceptrons in neural networks.

The idea of the black box in technology as having an unknowable implementation is contrasted and compared in this piece with the human brain and its own decision-making.

DATA

144" x 16" ScreenPrint

Although many artworks surrounding technology have an overwhelming negative aura about them, this piece aims to create a neutral tone into which the viewers can insert their own opinions and experiences and in return create a discourse with others.

Computer screenshots and data design reminiscent of Silicon Valley are digital archetypes interwoven with spastic, organic lines.  This conveys the notion that, although data science is automatic and structured underneath, ultimately it is a naturally intuitive human understanding that creates the algorithms of which are used in data science and machine learning.
